New in Sharetribe 🎉 Seats

Huge news for rental and service marketplaces: Sharetribe now supports calendar bookings with seats, no coding required.

You can let providers add multiple seats to each time-slot—or have one seat by default. (Sharetribe supports three different time-slot types without coding: day, night, or hour.)

Seats are a game-changer for many service and rental marketplaces. Such as ones that offer:

• Classes: Whether they’re for sports, languages, or crafts, classes listed on your marketplace can now accommodate multiple participants.
• Tours and experiences: Guides and tour agencies can offer group outings for multiple people at once.
• B2C rentals: Businesses that have multiple of the same equipment or tool available can manage their rental stock with seats.
• Desks in co-working spaces: Providers can determine the number of desks or rooms available in their office.
• Car-pooling: Drivers can determine how many seats are available in their car.

In a nutshell, if you’re building a marketplace with calendar bookings where each time-slot can have space for more than one person, this feature is for you.
 

How seats work

You can enable seats in the listing type settings in Console. Choose the calendar booking transaction process and decide whether listings will have one (the default) or multiple seats available.

When you choose multiple seats, providers determine the seat availability during listing creation, and customers choose the number of seats they want to book. 

You can also enable a seats filter in the listing search settings. Make sure to turn the date range filter on first: these two filters work together.

If you currently have calendar bookings enabled, your marketplace will have one-seat availability by default. Your users’ experience will not change unless you change your listing type settings.

Update marketplace texts

This launch introduces new user interface texts. Copy and paste the new translation keys from our Help Center into your marketplace text editor.

If you’re planning to enable seats, updating the texts to something that fits your marketplace can improve the user experience considerably. Instead of “seats”, use "students", “desks”, “rooms”, “cars”, “bikes”, or whatever it is your marketplace offers!
