Sharetribe's built-in commission feature lets you charge a commission automatically from all paid transactions. You can have both a provider commission, customer commission, or both.

  • Provider commission is deducted from the transaction value.

  • Customer commission is added on top of the listing price.

You can add both a percentage and minimum commission for both types of users. But if you don't want to have a percentage commission, you can also use the minimum commission feature to charge a flat commission rate.

Set a flat commission rate

Unlike with the percentage model, a flat commission rate will be the same regardless of the transaction value.

Here's how to set it up:

  1. In commission settings, set your provider and/or customer commission (%) percentage to 0.

  2. Add a minimum provider and/or customer commission in cents. For example, if you want a flat commission of $5, you should input 500. If you want the flat commission to be €0.8, you should input 80.

  3. Save changes.

All transaction will now only use the minimum commission. This works as a flat fee when there's no commission percentage added.

Combine percentage and flat commission rates

You can also combine the percentage commission and flat commission. For example, have a percentage commission for providers and a flat fee for customers. The flat fee for customers works as a service fee, while providers pay relative to their earnings.

Here's how to set it up:

  1. In commission settings, set your provider commission (%) percentage to your desired rate, such as 10%.

  2. Set the minimum provider commission in cents to 0.

  3. Set your customer commission (%) percentage to 0.

  4. Add a minimum customer commission in cents. For example 200 for a 2€ service feel.

  5. Save changes.

With the example rates, a purchase of 50 euros would break down as follows:

  • The customer pays 52€: 50€ for the listing + 2€ service fee

  • The provider receives 45€: 50€ for the listing - 5% commission of 5€.
