What are Third-party solutions?

Learn about pre-built third-party tools that can expand your marketplace capabilities.

Written by Thomas Rocca

Third-party solutions are pre-built tools, software, templates, and integrations that expand or modify Sharetribe’s out-of-the-box capabilities.

They let you add capabilities to your marketplace without having to build them from scratch. They are built specifically for Sharetribe by independent solution providers, often teams or individuals with extensive experience building or running Sharetribe marketplaces.

Third-party solutions can help you build new functionality, run your marketplace more efficiently, understand your data, or grow your user base.

You can browse available solutions in the Third-party solutions gallery.

How third-party solutions work

Third-party solutions are provided by independent solution providers, not by Sharetribe.

The solution provider typically handles:

  • onboarding

  • installation and setup

  • maintenance

  • ongoing support

Pricing and commercial terms vary by solution and are set by the solution provider.

Sharetribe does not sell or support third-party solutions. If you have questions about setup, functionality, billing, or support, you should contact the solution provider directly.

You also do not need to hire a developer to use a third-party solution. If development work is needed to install or configure the solution, the solution provider handles it for you.

Exact requirements vary by solution. In many cases, the solution is hosted and maintained by the provider in a similar way to other SaaS products, so you do not need to manage the underlying infrastructure yourself.

Using solutions in no-code mode and code mode

Each solution in the gallery indicates whether it is available in no-code mode.

If a solution is available in no-code mode, you can use it without changing or hosting your marketplace frontend code. Your Live marketplace can remain fully hosted by Sharetribe.

Solutions that work in no-code mode often extend what you can do as the marketplace operator, for example through analytics, automations, notifications, or marketing tools.

Some solutions can also affect the end-user experience without requiring code mode. For example, a mobile app built using a wrapper approach can work with a marketplace in no-code mode.

Other solutions require code mode because they modify or replace parts of the marketplace frontend. These may include website templates, mobile app templates, new pages, or other user-facing functionality.

Some solutions work in both no-code mode and code mode. In these cases, additional functionality may be available in code mode.

The Sharetribe plan you need depends on how the solution is used:

  • You can connect or test third-party solutions in the Test or Dev environments available on the Build plan. The solution provider may still have its own pricing or access requirements.

  • Solutions available in no-code mode can be used in a Live marketplace on the Pro or Extend plan.

  • Solutions that require code mode can be used in a Live marketplace on the Extend plan.

How to choose a solution

The best solution depends on the capability you need and how closely the solution matches your marketplace.

Some solutions in the gallery have a Sharetribe Certified designation. These solutions have gone through a more extensive review by Sharetribe, including areas such as technical implementation, security, reliability, user experience, and support.

All solutions in the gallery receive a basic review from Sharetribe before publication.

Non-certified solutions are generally newer and less tested, and they have not undergone the same level of review. They can still be a good option if they solve your exact need or something very similar. They carry more uncertainty because they have less usage history and less extensive review, but newer solution providers may also be more open to adapting the solution based on early customer needs.

When evaluating a solution, consider:

  • whether it solves your specific need

  • whether it works in no-code mode or requires code mode

  • whether it is Sharetribe Certified

  • what it costs

  • what the solution provider handles

  • whether the solution is established or still relatively new

Certification does not mean that Sharetribe sells, operates, or supports the solution. The solution provider remains responsible for providing and supporting it.

What solutions are available, and when should I use custom development?

Third-party solutions in the gallery fall into four categories:

  • Analytics: tools that help you understand, visualize, or combine marketplace data.

  • End-user experience: tools that change or extend how your marketplace works for its users, such as website or mobile app templates.

  • Operations: tools that help you run your marketplace more efficiently, such as automations, notifications, reports, and administrative tools.

  • Marketing: tools that help you attract, engage, and understand users through activities such as email, advertising, affiliate marketing, or tracking.

Third-party solutions are a good option when you have a relatively common marketplace need that has already been solved by a solution provider.

Because these solutions are pre-built specifically for Sharetribe, they can reduce the time and cost required to add functionality compared with building it from scratch.

If your requirements are specific to your marketplace—for example, you need a unique workflow, feature, design, or integration—custom development may be a better option.

You can build custom functionality using the Sharetribe Web Template and APIs, or work with a Sharetribe Expert to build it for you.
