Sharetribe Go community vs. hosted verion

Dear Forum members,

Is there a detailed comparison of the 2 options : having Sharetribe Go community vs. hosted version.
I would be interested in the answer from two different views:
1, Functions : what is the exact difference
2, Requirements for elements other than a hosting eviroment

Thanks
Zoltan

Hey Zoltan!

Did you have a chance to read the article at https://help.sharetribe.com/en/articles/666103-differences-between-the-hosted-and-source-available-community-edition-versions-of-sharetribe-go? It should help a bit already

In a nutshell:

  • same features except the location search (not open-sourced yet).
  • some licence limitations, for example icons or fonts are limited to the hosted version.
  • you likely won’t be able to use PayPal out of the box, as it requires some custom agreement with them (that are quite tough to obtain, in my opinion).
  • we don’t offer support for the Community version.

I’m not sure to understand your second question though. Would you have a chance to clarify a bit? Thanks!

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for the quick answer! I was reading the article you are referring, but it would be great to have a detailed feature list of both versions, so the ‘some features’ would be more clear:-)
Regarding point 2 : other elements I mean e-mail servers etc

Thanks,
Zoltan

Thanks for the clarification, Zoltan!

Well for 1, the answer is simple: Community Edition has all the same features except location search, the icons and fonts because of licences, and PayPal agreements.

About 2, I’ll let’s others reply based on their experience.

Hi @TakacsZoli,

As Thomas mentioned, CE (Community Edition) version have almost the same features as a hosted version with couple (and don’t get me wrong not small) limitations.

The biggest question what I would ask you is if you understand how much it takes to run CE platform? As I’m operating in the team who do CE platform building by a daily base, I have seen several examples where going CE destroy dreams because of the significant level of investment it requires. What do I usually suggest is to think about it twice before making the step. Hoster version supports a lot of tools from which, IMO, you can build your business. When the time comes, and you feel that CE is not sustainable enough you will know it, and then the question is not more about what features I’ll lose but more how much I’ll need to invest vs how much I’ll get back in revenue.

Hope this help by any means and best of luck!
