Limit amount of listings

Dear Sharetribe-Team,
Is there away to limit the number of listings to users, e.g. a user is only allowed to do 1 listing and some users are allowed to have multiple listings?

Best regards,
Stefan

Hi there Stefan,

as you’ve probably noticed already, this feature isn’t available.

However as it seems you are using or considering the open-source version, this is definitely something you can build yourself with your own team.

Or maybe someone else already added such feature? Happy to hear from others!

Hi Thomas,
thx for your reply. Yes I’m start using the open source version and adapting it already and I noticed, that studiotime is offering such a feature. But I was curious how they have implemented it (via script or via curation)?

The other questions for customization is then how compatible is that with respect to future updates…?

Cheers,
Stefan

Hey Stefan,

as far as I know, Studiotime (they rely on the hosted version) just manually enable or disable posting rights for users based on their subscription and number of listings. This is fully manual but works really great for them and they’ve been able to make quite a lot of money even without building any customizations.

Mike, Studiotime’s founder, actually shared quite a few tips within a couple videos in his YouTube channel.

When it comes to updates you’ll of course always be able to upgrade but if updates impacts parts of the code you’ve changed yourself, you’ll have to resolve conflicts and adapt things. So it really depends: it might be super fast, or you may have to spend a bit of time to merge things properly based on your work.

Hopefully this helps.

Hey Thomas,
this is interesting;) Thank you for the info. But just for the details, if they only allow one listing, but a user can post multiple listings, do they then manually deactivate the second listing and so on? I’m mean there is no option at the moment in the user rights to limit the listing, right? So someone of them is busy with checking every day if a certain user group only (which are only allowed for one listing) does really only have one listing? Correct?
Thanks again,
Best regards,
Stefan

I really don’t know all the details. I imagine that if something goes wrong, they just contact the member, possibly close their listing or even ban them, but this is probably very rare.

I imagine that they monitor new listings (for example with the RSS-Atom feed) and review subscriptions daily or couple times a day.

Maybe you could contact them to ask, but they’ve already shared a lot on YouTube so they won’t necessarily reply with details.
