Invoices with Sharetribe

Hello,

I have recently received an email from Sharetribe Team annoucing a new feature: the possibility to charge a fee from the buyer.

This leads me to questions about creating the invoices corresponding to the marketplace fees.

(my plan is to build a B2C marketplace, located in France. I have to create invoices with VAT).

If I understand correctly - whatever the commission is (seller fee or buyer fee) - the money will move from the buyer account to 1/ the seller account, 2/ the marketplace account and 3/ stripe.

Even in the case of a seller fee, no money will be directly exchanged between the seller and the marketplace bank accounts (thanks to stripe connect). Am I right ?

So as a marketplace, should I send the invoice corresponding to the transaction fee to the buyer only ?

(On his side, the seller must send the invoice corresponding to the product, without transaction fee.)

How do you guys create these invoices ? I don’t think it is possible with sharetribe app, isn’t it?

I plan to export the transactions to a CSV, and to create the invoices by myself. Is this the best way ?
(At this step I could offer the seller to create his invoice, as a service)

I hope this is clear enough, and hope to have answers.
I am really keen to ear your feedbacks on this non-tech but essential topic.
(the last thing I really need to master before launching…)

Thanks a lot !

Hi

I am setting up a marketplace set up to charge a seller’s commission, and unsure how invoicing would work for accounting/tax purpose.

Specifically, if we sell an item on behalf of a seller for £100, and our commission is 12%, and the payment processing fee is £1, we receive £11 into our bank account.

Should the seller generate an invoice for the full £100 to the buyer, we invoice the seller for £12 and Stripe invoices us for £1?

Or, should the seller generate an invoice for £88 to the buyer, we generate an invoice also to the buyer for £12 and Stripe invoices us for £1?

Thank You
